YouTube, the American online video-sharing platform created in 2005, announced an additional feature that they would implement as an update to the platform.
The Applause feature as they call it will essentially be the equivalent of a tip at a restaurant or for a service one receives. Users may purchase applause for $2. They split total donations per video into a ratio of 70:30 with 30 going the way of YouTube.
The feature is supposed to be an alternative way of earning for YouTube’s creators, as opposed to hitting the various views and subscriptions targets to earn their income. The initiative has been in the works and the platform decided that this was a good time for it to be announced.
