First of all, the Euros got canceled. Then the Copa America. Now, the Olympics have been canceled due to the pandemic.
These are dark times if not highlighted over the past few weeks. This cancellation is coming after the Japan Prime Minister reached an agreement with the International Olympics Committee on Tuesday, 24th March 2020.
The Olympics have only ever been canceled in history as a result of the World Wars that have etched themselves in the history books. Aside from them, no other occurrence or happening in history had been able to prevent the Olympic Games from taking place.
Well, that is until COVID – 19 struck. If people aren’t realizing how serious this pandemic is, then it should hit home now; the pandemic is on the level of a potential world war threat. Sure, there’s been the Black Plague, AIDS and Ebola outbreaks were all pretty serious, but the coronavirus is doing it, in grand style and at an alarming rate.
As of now, all sporting activities have either been suspended or canceled until further notice. What people don’t realize is, even though we are hoping this all dies down soon, it can’t. If a cure comes out, it’ll take another period to test, make sure it’s effective, make sure that the virus doesn’t re-engineer itself and adapt to it, distribute and deliver it to affected portions of the world.
There is the art of administration of drugs too which takes some bit of time, and the observation period for people in recovery. Whether we like it or not, humanity is at a brink and we need a miracle, a global saving miracle. It’s ironic how we’ve been through all these hellish experiences and come out conquering yet this one, this one looks like it’ll be the end of all of us.
Still, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” ― Bill Keane. Every day is a gift, and we must embrace it and treat it as such. Stand in prayer with all other nations and never stop believing that we will beat this.
