Mfantsipim School, after years of laying in a state of dormancy and clashing against long-time enemies only to be put down like a bull in submission—was crowned Absa Central Regional champion(2021) for the first time in a long while. Following a great victory over Central Region giants; Adisadel College, University Practice, and Assin State College.
Being benched severally over the years in the NSMQ, the ‘Botwe Boys’ made a major debut this year in the competition as they began their NSMQ journey with a trophy.
In 2019, the two-time winners of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) became one of the few schools never to dream of starting their Regional Qualifying campaign.
Consequently, they reasoned that 2020 might be their ultimate year of redemption but were sent off by their arch-nemesis—St. Augustine’s College as they lost to them at the one-eight stage of 2020 NSMQ.
But one fall after the other has evidently strengthened the young men of Mfantsipim School, thus this exciting rebirth of sharpened wit and mental agility.
Ahead of their new journey in this year’s competition,
team Mfantsipim crushed their opponent in the ‘Day One’ of the Central Qualifiers to qualify for the regional championship.
The ‘Botwe Boys’ put up a spirited performance throughout the contest, from the first round to the last, and emerged victoriously.
A total of 53 points was awarded to them at the end of the contest. Their rivals— Adisadel College, ended up with 35 points, 20 points for University Practice, Assin State College slugging behind with 18 points.
We hope to see Mfantsipim move forward in this newfound strength and anticipate more of these stellar performances by the Mfantsipim Boys from the coastal ground this year at the National level.
