The Ministry of Information (MOI) is a major stakeholder for government communications. It is responsible for circulating government policies and ensuring that the people are abreast of information concerning the activities of the government.
In this regard, the Ministry of Information is also responsible for ensuring that reactions to government policies by the people are reported to the government so that solutions are provided to problems being faced by the people.
This means that the Ministry of Information, per its mission statement, exists to facilitate the free flow of adequate, timely, and reliable information and feedback between the government and the public for socio-economic empowerment and enhanced democratic citizenship. Thus, it is a matter of transparency and social accountability.
The role of the Ministry of Information makes the appointment of the Information minister one of the best appointments. Honourable Kojo Vincent Oppong Nkrumah, the political head of the ministry, is also the Member of Parliament for the Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Law, an MBA, and is also a member of the Ghana Bar.
He began his career as a treasury analyst in 2006 and moved on to become a broadcast journalist at Joy FM, where he hosted the popular Super Morning Show. He left the scene of broadcasting in 2014 to establish his investment firm, West Brownstone Capital.
By 2016, he had become a lawyer practicing at Kulendi, Attafuah and Amponsah. In 2020, he was selected as the Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
His political career began when he contested for the Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016 and won. He was appointed to the office of Information Minister in January 2017 and nominated again in 2021 for the same portfolio.
After approval by a majority consensus, Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah became the Information Minister again and still holds his office.
The rich experience and expertise Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has acquired over the years, which relates closely with the duties of the Minister of Information, makes him a suitable fit for the Ministry.
