Bayern Munich continued their dominance despite losing to Hoffenheim last weekend by winning the Super Cup against a Dortmund side without Jadon Sancho. The match looked like the same old story for Dortmund, and Bayern took the lead through Tolisso and Mueller early in the first half.
But Brandt pulled one back for the underdogs before half time came to inject a bit of hope into the Dortmund side.
That hope eventually brought them back to life as Haaland put the ball at the back of the net to restore parity and turn the game on its end. Both teams went for it as the second half wore on, and Bayern, who were desperate to avoid the game being dragged beyond 90 minutes after their fatigue levels were called into question after the loss that ended their 32 matches unbeaten streak.
Joshua Kimmich, in a solo run, exchanging passes with Lewandowski, put the ball at the back of the net. That goal would eventually be the winner as Bayern has now lifted 5 trophies in 2020.
If all goes to plan and they win the Club world cup, they could match Barcelona’s season where they took 6 trophies in a year. The Bayern machine marches on.
