The American multinational technology company based in Seattle, Washington, which focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence, Amazon Inc. has sent their apologies to the UK Gov’t for causing ‘confusion’ among its citizens.
This confusion was as a result of sending a broadcast email announcing the launch of ‘Sidewalk’ network which is only accessible in the horizons of the United States.
The Amazon Sidewalk was originally announced in 2019. The Sidewalk brand is a security camera and a smart speaker which can still function with or without connection. It can be accessed by certain Amazon-branded devices up to 500m (0.3 miles) away if the home Wi-Fi is out of reach or not working.
The brand uses a broadband account which allows customers to create a neighbourhood – wide network for local devices.
Since Amazon is a US based company, only US customers should have been contacted instead of the UK.
In an exclusive interview with BBC, an Amazon spokeswoman stated that, ” We recently began emailing customers with Echo devices registered in the US to give them more information about Amazon Sidewalk. This service will only be available in the US when it launches.”
She then apologies to all customers who received the email.
“We apologize for any confusion.”
