On Thursday, November 12, a giant star fell, in the person of the late President of Republic of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings. From that moment of black sadness, the entire nation together with the world mourn.
Aftermath of his sudden death, many diplomatic persons from outside and inside Ghana have sought to console the mourning family. A ‘vigil’ was organised in memory of the late president.
The Government of Ghana, and His Excellence Nana Addo have all visited the family of the late President to participate in ensuring a befitting funeral for him.
Also, Ghanaians have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family and join them to mourn the late Former President.
On Monday, a special team from the UN led by Madam Amina J. Mohammed, who happens to be the Deputy Secretary-General, United Nations (UN) and Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group signed the book of condolences for the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The delegated team who signed the condolences book include:
Madam Hanna Serwaa Tetteh (The Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union), Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas (The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel), Mr Charles Abani (UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana).
Also,Mr Samuel Kofi Mills, the son of late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills, signed the book of condolences on Monday.
For him, the late former President was his hero and will always be remembered by Ghanaians. He said that the late former President Jerry John Rawlings told him that his dad was a great personality and he was extremely shocked when the news of the death reached him.
