Choice Overload

Have you ever searched for a particular item on an e-commerce website and rather got unrelated items ? Or in a another case, you got items relating to what you searched for but do not know which one you should pick or which is of good quality to purchase because they all look alike?

The problem with this is that with a physical store, you get to speak to either the vendor or the customer assistant to help you make a good choice as to which item is good for what or is of good quality.Possible Solution: Give proper product description and specs so search can be narrowed and provide a live chat for customer support so the customer is able to make a decision on the right product.

Delay In Delivery

Let’s pick a scenario. You order an item that you need in two days but the item gets delivered days after you needed it. It’s sad right? Many people feel that online shops should step up their game and provide a feature where a customer can actually request the time they need their item(s) because sometimes, your item can be delivered at a time where you’ll be at work or school or somewhere else and the delivery guy shows up at the doorstep of your home with your item in hand so you’d have to bear the extra cost of either going to get it or pay extra for the person to come meet you up at wherever you are.

In another situation, you order a dress that you need for a party the next day but the shop says delivery is within 5-10 days. What’s the guarantee that you’d get your item the next day?

For some people, they’d just refrain from making the purchase. Possible Solution: Send a message to the customer when the order is shipped and then when it is expected to be delivered so that the customer is prepared to receive it

Frauds in Online Shopping

E-commerce websites that allow customers to also sell items on their websites have attracted quite a few bad persons whose activities have become a menace and have deterred people and for some others, made them lose interest in ever shopping online again.

These bad persons or fraudsters post pictures of the real item online and present customers the fake product or an inferior one that does not last long. This has happened a lot with widely used items such as mobile phones, where these fraudsters request payment to be made before dispatching the item or delivering it to the customer.

This reason leads us to the next reason why people don’t shop online. Possible Solution: Sites should request the product from the third party, review it and dispatch the item to the customer to avoid those third party frauds.

Lack of opportunity to touch/ feel product before purchasing.

People who have been sold inferior items or fake items before through a purchase online have this particular question at heart. How do they know the next item they purchase is of good quality?

And for those who are yet to make that final purchase, how do I know this item is of good quality?
My suggestion is that if you want to buy an item at the comfort of your home and to be sure it’s of good quality, buy that item from a well known e-commerce website with a return policy just incase the item is not what you want.

The return policy allows you to bring back an item if it does not suit what you needed. This policy only applies for a short period of time. For some e-commerce websites, it is a 7-days return period.

No Close Examination of Product

Another reason why people do not shop online is the fact that they cannot assess the product before they purchase them. Some people would like to check for good quality and perfect performance of the items they require before purchasing them.

Unlike in physical stores, online stores do not give customers this privilege. You’d have to buy the item, wait for it to be delivered before you assess it.

Boring Interfaces

While overwhelming site structures can be a bummer, websites with insipid interfaces don’t get much done either. It’s hard to get attention of the customers, so make sure you get it right at the first go.Shoppers are an impatient lot.

Get their attention with attractive website designs that allure visitors and give them an enjoyable experience both on desktops and other handheld devices like mobiles, tabs etc.

Possible Solution: Make sure your web pages don’t take too long to load. Give interactive product guides to keep visitors entertained and engaged at the same time.

Hidden Costs

This is another common issue customers face a lot on some e-commerce websites. Online marketplaces do not tell customers the hidden costs on so many things. For instance, the customer is lured into buying something that says is cost at a certain price. Within minutes, they are paying a lot more to get the product delivered, additional shipping, etc.

This eventually leads the customer to pay a lot more than he or she had expected.
Possible Solution: A simple solution is to keep the charges so apparent that the customers do not feel cheated and buy the products of their interest for sure.

Conclusion

Everything comes with an advantage and disadvantage. I think websites should work more on improving on the number of advantages and make online shopping attractive to people who have stopped shopping online and to eliminate the fears of others who have not tried shopping online before.

A number of people would love to go back to relaxing whiles shopping from home and not worry about a lot of problems that come with shopping online.
